Quatro Cravos

THE YEAR 1911 MARKS THE FIRST DOCUMENTED WINE PRODUCTION OF ADEGA CRAVO.

In the wine production register of «Adega Cravo», in 1911, the production of one thousand almudes (20,000L) is recorded, which was sold in bulk to taverns and snack restaurants located between Ovar and Espinho.

The cellar suffered the consequences linked to the personal history of the owners, but they did not neglect the passage of the family's ancestral legacy in the work in the vineyards and in the production of wine, having transmitted it with zeal to the successor generations.

In symbolic terms, it symbolizes something valuable in the «Cravo family», the ancestral wine heritage, received with the responsibility of being preserved for generations, in an effort that was reinforced by the great-grandson of the founder, current owner, with investments in technologically advanced equipment and in the improvement of oenological processes.

The remaining plots of vineyard occupied by the “Adega Cravo” can be found in Mamarrosa and Amoreira da Gândara, where the vines occupy the sandy, low clay content soil that give birth to Arinto and Bical white grapes of exceptional quality.

The careful planning of the plantation of the vineyards make the manual labor, which must be done with extreme care, easier. As soon as the grapes are ready, they are hand harvested and brought to the winery in baskets, keeping the grapes protected in order to create authentic fine wines.
